SHRED., the truly independent brand redefining eyewear and protection, announces the 2ND SKIN™ Back Protector Lite line. The goal is clear: make protection something skiers and riders actually wear.

Adoption is low for two reasons. The category still carries the image of bulky, thick, heavy, stiff protectors, and many believe back protection is only for racers, terrain parks, or backcountry days. Today’s slopes are more crowded, visibility shifts fast, and snow is often inconsistent or man made. The biggest risk is not your control or speed. It is what is around you.

“Riders skip protection when it feels bulky or hot. We removed those barriers.”
Carlo Salmini — SHRED. Co-founder & MIT-trained materials engineer

“By combining our HEXAFLOW™ three dimensional structure with SLYTECH® 2ND SKIN™ material technology, we cut weight and thickness while boosting ventilation and comfort. The result is certified back protection that disappears until you need it.”

The 2ND SKIN™ Back Protector Lite line is 30 percent thinner and 35 percent lighter than SHRED.’s previous generation while maintaining EN 1621-2 Level 1 full back certification and proven cold-weather performance. Two models give skiers and riders distinct options: the Lite Vest, with a simple zip front and breathable chassis for everyday ease, and the Lite Naked, with a minimalist belt and shoulder straps for maximum freedom and airflow.

Both deliver certified protection in an ultra-thin, ultra-light, and ultra-flexible build that is comfortable enough to put on in the morning and forget until you step into the shower at the end of the day.

“As athletes we need protection that works without getting in the way.”
Ted Ligety — Two-time Olympic gold medalist, five-time World Champion, SHRED. Co-founder

“With SHRED. 2ND SKIN™ Lite you put it on and forget it’s there, but if needed it is there to protect you. That balance is what will finally get more skiers and riders to wear one. And as a parent it’s a must just like a helmet, as my main worry is them getting hit by other skiers. Plus, my kids think they are fun and cool.”

Key benefits of the SHRED. 2ND SKIN™ Back Protector Lite Line include the HEXAFLOW™ three dimensional hexagonal grid for natural movement and broad energy distribution, engineered perforations for high ventilation, and SLYTECH® 2ND SKIN™ that is soft while riding and instantly hardens on impact. Both models offer a low profile, body conforming fit designed for stable, constraint free performance.

Also available: Heavy Duty Naked (Level 2) for riders who want higher impact thresholds while staying breathable and low profile.
