The Spirit of a Champion: Renè De Silvestro’s Journey to the Big Show

February 28, 2018 1 min read

Renè De Silvestro was just seventeen years old when he hit a tree while skiing. The aspiring racer sustained severe spinal cord injuries, yet these injuries came to strengthen his spirit. With hustle, grit, and tremendous determination, Renè returned to the slopes on a sit ski. And just four years after his accident, he made his debut on the World Cup podium. He competed in Pyeongchang Paralympics in 2018, scored some World Cup podiums and reached the top in January 2022 with a Gold Medal in the alpine combined and a Bronze Medal in the SuperG events. Now, he’s gearing up to compete on the world’s biggest stage again.

As he explains, “I love pretty much everything about skiing—the adrenaline, the speed, and the feel of carving with all the power that comes with a turn.” We couldn’t agree more. Shred is honored to support Renè’s dreams and share his passion. Thanks for continually inspiring us, Renè. We’ll see you at the Big Show.
