SHRED.: Leading the Way in Responsible Goggle Straps

SHRED. has a long history of innovation and performance in the world of snow sports. But beyond pushing boundaries on the slopes, we're also dedicated to reducing our environmental impact. That's why, in 2021, we became the first goggle brand to introduce straps made with partially recycled plastic bottles (r-PET content around 84%).

Pioneering Innovation with Recycled Materials:

Developing these straps wasn't easy. It required significant research to find the perfect combination of recycled materials that could deliver the same level of performance, comfort, and durability as traditional straps. We're proud to say we achieved this goal, and these innovative straps became a hit.

But our commitment to responsible business didn't stop there. In 2024, we took another step forward.  Through continued research and development, we were able to successfully transition our traditional straps to also incorporate partially recycled content (r-PET content around 82%). This maintains the same performance characteristics you expect from SHRED. goggles while further reducing our reliance on virgin plastics.

From Concept to Competition:

The success of our recycled straps was evident at the 2022 Beijing Olympics. Every SHRED. athlete competing on the slopes wore goggles featuring these innovative straps. It was a powerful moment, showcasing both athletic performance and our commitment to responsible business on the world's biggest stage.

An Ongoing Commitment to Responsible Business Practices:

Our dedication to responsible business practices doesn't stop at the straps. We're constantly exploring ways to improve throughout our entire product line and we understand that being responsible goes beyond the product itself. We've also made significant strides with our packaging. You can learn more about it on our blog post:From Excess to Responsible Packaging: Our Journey to Reducing Our Impact

FAQ

Is my goggle strap partially recycled? What is the percentage of recycled content of my goggle strap?

All the straps of our Recycled Goggle Strap Line come with a Repreve hang tag attached to them so you know they are partially recycled. As for the percentage, we have two types of straps.

  • If your strap looks like this (with a textured surface and usually a Recycled Symbol embedded in the graphic):

The percentage of r-PET is approximately 84%.

We chose to make the first goggle strap line with the highest possible recycled material content and we were able to achieve the properties we wanted by changing the texture design of our straps.

  • If your strap looks like this (classic straps, they have a label sewn inside with the Recycled Symbol):

The percentage of r-PET is approximately 82%. We were able to add a significant quantity of recycled material in our traditional straps just recently, being able to maintain the same look and feel as the very first versions. That is why the percentage is a bit lower.

How many water bottles are approximately recycled to create a single goggle strap?

It's difficult to provide an exact number of water bottles used per strap due to variations in strap size and weight. However, we can tell you that on average, approximately 170 plastic water bottles are recycled to create the straps for every 100 SHRED. goggles we produce.

Is the recycled material certified?

Yes, it is. The r-PET used in our goggle straps is provided by Repreve (https://repreve.com/) that also certifies the percentage of recycled material and the approx quantity of water bottles recycled per 100 goggles. The factory that makes our straps also have the GRS 4.0 certification.
