Venice, Italy (2 February 2016) – With heavy hearts we received the terrible and shocking news yesterday morning of our dear friend and family member, Kelly McGarry, passing away. Its effects have rippled throughout the company, and all of us at Shred Optics and Slytech Protection walk with sadness and Kelly on our minds.
The gentle giant had a brightness about him that inspired all of those whose lives he touched through both his ineffable personality, and his fearlessly passionate riding. There are no words to quell the flow of sadness from all of us, and the mountain bike community.
Our deepest thoughts and condolences go out to Kelly’s family and friends, the mountain bike community, and all of the lives that Kelly touched. He was a truly great man, and he will be missed.
“Kelly was the most fun loving giant friend I had, he made my job very enjoyable. He will be missed beyond words. My prayers go out to his friends and family. Rest in peace, Mcgazza,” from Victor Sheldon, Team Manager.
Federico Merle – CMO, shared, “the freeride world has lost a legend today. And we have lost our friend. It was easy to be inspired by Kelly’s attributes as an athlete, but it was his personality that made him truly special. His constant smile, warm character, and willingness to help others were contagious. He was insanely professional in every endeavor, and at the same time so relaxed and down to earth while sitting down for a talk. We are devastated, and still can’t believe the news.
Our hearts go out to his family during this difficult time. We will always remember Kelly as the giant kid that he was.”
Co-founder, Ted Ligety said, “Kelly was an immensely inspirational person not only for his super hero ability on a bike, but because he was an awesome guy that was always positive and had an infectious attitude. He will be missed.”
We are deeply saddened by the loss of one of our greatest athletes,” said Co-founder, Carlo Salmini. “Kelly was a true hero and inspiration for us and we couldn’t be more proud and honored to have had him represent our brands and products. Ride in peace.”
Kelly will live on through the passion he shared with all of us.
