THE LENS-CHART RETHINK
WHICH LENS
IS RIGHT?
THIS ONE.
Clouds roll in. The sun breaks through. You drop into shade. Your next turn should not depend on whether you packed the right spare lens.
DEFEAT flat light. SHIELD glare.
ONE lens. ALL conditions.
SHRED. Contrast Boosting Lens™ 2.0 technology.
Make the right snow details pop. Filter out distracting visual noise.
Can one goggle lens handle changing light? Contrast Boosting Lens™ 2.0 technology enhances useful contrast and filters distracting visual noise, making snow texture, contours, and changes in the surface stand out. Its all-conditions formulation helps you read the terrain through changing winter daytime light. More detail. More confidence for skiing and snowboarding.
A FAMILIAR PROBLEM
The forecast changes.
The guessing starts.
Which tint? Which percentage? Is the next run brighter, darker, or just harder to read? Lens charts can turn a day on snow into a series of equipment decisions.
Illustrative lens shapes show the complexity of choosing for each change in light. Contrast Boosting Lens™ 2.0 ICE is the winter daytime formulation; dedicated NIGHTTIME and GLACIER formulations address the extremes.

THE NUMBER IS NOT THE WHOLE VIEW
You can see the mountain.
Can you read the snow?
You know the feeling: the slope is right in front of you, but its shape is harder to judge. The next roll, rut, or change in texture stops standing out. That is the flat-light problem.
VLT%How much light gets through.Visible light transmission measures the percentage of visible light passing through a lens. It is useful. It is not a complete measure of terrain visibility. |
DETAIL.What you need to pick out.Edges. Snow texture. Changes in the surface. Contrast and glare control help determine how clearly those features stand out. |
Choosing goggles on VLT alone is like choosing headphones on volume alone. The amount matters. So does the information you can make out.
For the longer explanation, read why VLT alone does not tell the full story.

DEFEAT FLAT LIGHT. SHIELD GLARE.
Make the right details pop.
Filter out the noise.
That is the idea behind SHRED. Contrast Boosting Lens™ 2.0 technology, developed in collaboration with the MIT Sports Lab. Enhance the visual information that helps you read snow. Reduce the distracting glare that gets in the way.
Bring the detail forward.SHRED.’s proprietary contrast-enhancing dye makes differences in the snow surface stand out. Texture. Contours. Changes in the terrain. The details that help you choose your next turn. |
Turn the visual noise down.A specialized, partially polarizing filter tuned for snow reduces distracting glare. Less visual interference helps useful contrast and terrain detail come through. |
Together, they do more than manage how much light reaches your eyes. Contrast Boosting Lens™ 2.0 technology helps the right details pop while filtering distracting visual noise. Its all-conditions formulation brings that approach to changing winter daytime light, without a routine lens swap every time the clouds move.
The goal is concrete: read the next turn with more confidence, enhance your performance, and have more fun.
Keep the lens.
Choose the feel.
Prefer a classic cylindrical shape or a larger, minimal frame? AMAZIFY and SIMPLIFY feature the same Contrast Boosting Lens™ 2.0 technology in two different fits.

BUILT FROM A REAL QUESTION
What helps people
see better on snow?
That question brought SHRED. and the MIT Sports Lab together. The work combined simulated flat-light environments, human feedback, and optical analysis. It helped shape SHRED.’s approach to contrast, beyond a transmission percentage.
MIT News documented the early research in 2018. SHRED. continued the collaboration and introduced Contrast Boosting Lens™ 2.0 at Beijing 2022.
“functions like noise-canceling headphones for the eye”
In Ski Racing’s 2024 feature, Katie Hensien described the benefit simply: “it truly performs well in varied lighting.”

YOUR LENS QUESTIONS, ANSWERED
Skiing and snowboarding.
Your goggle lens FAQ.
What is the best goggle lens for changing light?
Look for a lens that combines terrain contrast, glare control, and comfortable light transmission across the conditions you ski and snowboard. SHRED. Contrast Boosting Lens™ 2.0 ICE is designed as a one-lens solution for changing winter daytime light, from flat light and clouds to sun.
What does VLT mean in ski and snowboard goggles?
VLT stands for visible light transmission: the percentage of visible light that passes through a lens. Higher VLT means more transmitted light; lower VLT means less. It describes transmission, not the complete experience of contrast, glare, fit, or terrain definition.
Does VLT still matter when choosing a ski or snowboard goggle lens?
Yes. It remains a useful light-transmission specification, especially when choosing for extremes such as night skiing and snowboarding or intense glacier sun. The mistake is treating VLT as a complete score for how well a lens helps you read snow.
How does Contrast Boosting Lens™ 2.0 technology work?
Contrast Boosting Lens™ 2.0 technology combines SHRED.’s proprietary contrast-enhancing dye with a specialized, partially polarizing filter tuned for snow. The dye makes useful differences in the snow surface stand out; the filter reduces distracting glare and visual noise. Together, they help you read texture, contours, and terrain detail for skiing and snowboarding.
Is Contrast Boosting Lens™ 2.0 technology photochromic or electronically adjustable?
Neither. Contrast Boosting Lens™ 2.0 technology uses a fixed optical formulation. Photochromic lenses change tint in response to light, and electronic systems use powered tint control. Those approaches manage transmission differently; a tint-changing mechanism alone does not describe contrast performance.
Do I need to swap lenses when the sun comes out?
Contrast Boosting Lens™ 2.0 ICE is designed to cover the transition from cloudy or flat-light winter conditions to sun, without routine weather-driven swaps. Night skiing and snowboarding, extremely low light, and prolonged intense glacier or summer conditions have different requirements.
Can I use the all-conditions lens for night skiing and snowboarding?
For skiing and snowboarding at night or in extremely low light, choose the dedicated Contrast Boosting Lens™ 2.0 NIGHTTIME option where available for your goggle model. Contrast Boosting Lens™ 2.0 ICE is the winter daytime solution; it is not the dedicated night lens.
What lens should I use for glacier or summer skiing and snowboarding?
SHRED. offers Contrast Boosting Lens™ 2.0 GLACIER for extreme brightness, including high-altitude glacier and summer use. Confirm compatibility with your specific goggle model before buying a replacement lens.
Are polarized goggles suitable for snow?
Polarization is not an all-or-nothing feature. Contrast Boosting Lens™ 2.0 technology uses a specialized partial-polarization approach tuned for snow, combining glare control with terrain definition. No lens makes every icy patch visible; keep adapting your speed and line to what you can see.
Which SHRED. goggles feature Contrast Boosting Lens™ 2.0 technology?
The current GRATIFY, CODIFY, AMAZIFY, SIMPLIFY, RARIFY, and EXEMPLIFY models featured here offer Contrast Boosting Lens™ 2.0 technology in the all-conditions lens formulation. Check the selected product variant’s lens name so you receive the formulation you want.
How do I choose between GRATIFY, CODIFY, AMAZIFY, SIMPLIFY, RARIFY, and EXEMPLIFY?
Start with fit and helmet compatibility, then choose your preferred lens shape and frame style. GRATIFY is frameless; CODIFY brings a sharp frame and updated comfort; AMAZIFY has a classic cylindrical shape; SIMPLIFY is oversize; RARIFY is large and spherical; EXEMPLIFY is more compact and spherical.
Can I wear these goggles over prescription glasses?
All six models featured here are listed as OTG compatible. Your glasses’ dimensions and the combined goggle-and-helmet fit still matter. Check the product information and try the full setup together.
Does the mirror color tell me which lens to choose?
Mirror appearance alone is not a complete performance guide. Check the actual lens technology and variant description. For the winter daytime approach discussed here, look for Contrast Boosting Lens™ 2.0 ICE.
How do I keep my goggles clear?
Good vision also depends on lens care and ventilation. Keep vents unobstructed, let wet goggles dry properly, and follow SHRED.’s goggle lens-care guide for cleaning and storage rather than rubbing a wet inner lens. Read the lens-care guide →
