NICO'S QUIVER

|
“Growing up in a mountain town skiing was almost inevitable, in fact you were actually forced to participate in winter sports one way or the other. I liked skiing but snowboarding fascinated me from the first time I saw a snowboard. I didn’t even see someone actually snowboarding just a shiny blue board that was probably the same age as myself standing in the corner of my dad’s workshop were he fixed skis and handed out rentals. I can’t recall what exactly made me want to ride it in the first place, but I guess the fact that it was all alone, shiny and I had never seen something like it before, made it somewhat mysterious. I asked my dad if I could try it some time, he said: “sure”.”

A Q&A With Nicholas Wolken

What about the products are you most psyched on and how do they help you?

The Stupefy is a nice and big goggle, but not bulky. It fits neatly in the helmet but also looks good when worn just with a beanie. For me it’s most important a goggle doesn’t fog up and that’s the case with the Stupefy.

What's the perfect day of shredding to you?

Steep and a lot of powder makes me smile!

Gnarliest or scariest experience riding?

It has to be my last AK line, before we flew out of the Todrillos. It was by far longer and steeper than anything I had ever climbed and ridden before. About 5 turns in from the very top, the spine I was on cracked and shattered like glass. At the moment I wasn’t scared like screaming, there was no time. Luckily I managed to stay on top of the ridge and keep moving down the spine while all the snow was moving down on the sides in the channels. Coming of off that line must have been the biggest rush of fear and happiness I have ever felt.
